What are our hydrid electric solutions?

Two months ago, Fountaine Pajot organized its Innovation Show in La Rochelle, France. The theme was future solutions for decarbonising the world of leisure boating. At the event, Fountaine Pajot unveiled the Samana 59 Smart Electric REXH2, the first 100% electric hydrogen catamaran to be based on a production model. This is a world first, breaking new ground and setting in motion a technological and environmental transition in the marine industry.

What is the Hydrogen-powered Samana 59?

FIND OUT ALL ABOUT OUR SOLUTION FOR THE FUTURE

In partnership with EODev, a specialist in industrial solutions using hydrogen, Fountaine Pajot has recently developed the world’s first production cruising catamaran with 100% electric propulsion which uses hydrogen as an energy source. This prototype, the Samana 59 Smart Electric X REXH2, demonstrates the capacity of the Fountaine Pajot group to be far ahead in innovation, and shows its long-term vision on the energy transition strategy it wants to engage.

What does the future look like with hydrogen in the marine industry?

ENERGY OBSERVER, SOURCE OF INSPIRATION.

This new catamaran has benefited from the technologies developed on board the Energy Observer catamaran, a true floating laboratory of new energies, which has been sailing the world’s seas for several years. We met Louis-Noël Viviès, General Manager of Energy Observer, to talk to us about the interest of hydrogen as an energy source and its future in the nautical industry for the next years.

In the meantime, electrical solutions already exist!

THE PIONEER IN HYBRID BOATING SOLUTIONS

This hydrid electric solution called «Smart Electric» allows catamarans to be powered by two electric pods, one under each hull, supplied in energy by two batteries. To charge the batteries, the boat has a large surface area of solar panels with a production capacity of 2000 watts, and a hydraulic energy system in the pods, which recovers the energy generated by sailing under sail.

Three models in the range already offer this hybrid-electric solution: the Aura 51, of course, but also the Astréa 42 and Elba 45. The aim is to offer the electric power option for the whole range very soon.
